Character[/b]
Name: Hilliel (H’lel)
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Rank: Candidate
Mutated?(If so what is their ability): Not as far as anyone knows.
Location: Skysong Weyr
Appearance: Hilliel is…pretty. With long, sleek hair that falls to his tailbone and a graceful, if sharp, facial profile, it would be easy to write him off as a girly man. But he’s not. Standing at about 5’11,” Hilliel is surprisingly muscular, with broad shoulders and large hands and feet. Other than his face, there’s not much delicate about Hilliel. When he finishes growing into himself, he’ll be quite the manly creature. He’s pretty obviously of High Reaches descent, with his light skin and brilliant turquoise eyes, but his hair isn’t a particularly usual colour: something similar to auburn, best described as caramel-coloured. Since he’s ventured to Skysong, he has tanned somewhat, but he will never bronze in the hot Southern sun the way others do.
Personality: Hilliel is quick-witted and brave, but not exactly the most masculine of people. With a tendency to emote rather than intuit, he has a reputation for being soft and easy to manipulate. This is not the case at all; rather, Hilliel doesn’t like seeing others unhappy, and if he can do something to appease that or avoid conflict, he will. But when he feels there is something he needs to stand up for, he absolutely will stand up for it. By no means fearless, he has nonetheless (largely by the tutelage of his aunts) learned to swallow fear when it is necessary and take a stand even if it’s going to upset people or even get him hurt.
He is loath to get into fights, but if he or anyone else is threatened he will protect them, even if it means getting into a physical altercation. He’s the sort who doesn’t know his own strength, but if he unwittingly causes harm to anyone, he’d be devastated. He is passionate about helping people and views the possibility of Impression as one of the best ways he can help. He regrets never having known his mother, and if he can save others from death by Thread, he will. Duty-bound to his Weyr, as well as his family and friends, he is loyal to a fault and would likely lay down his life to save those people he loves.
Though he doesn’t like to be in charge, he is a compassionate listener and is always willing to help people. And if that means organizing them and leading a group effort, he will do it. If it weren’t for his slightly over-emotional tendencies, he would likely be the sort of person to fall into the “by any means necessary” mantra. Luckily, he won’t. The idea that he might one day use other people for his own advantage terrifies him.
History: Hilliel was born and raised in Fort Hold. His mother, who never told anyone who the father of her only son was, lived a life of dangerously unstable emotions and was unable to care for her son. So Hilliel was raised by his aunts—one a Master Beasthealer, and one a Journeyman Healer. They raised him well, often letting him see his mother, until the Thread started falling again. When the news of the dragonrider deaths that were a given in the first Fall came to her ears, Hilliel’s mother completely lost her hold on reality. During the next Fall, she disappeared. It is assumed she slipped past Hold guards and ran out in a storm, where she was entirely devoured.
Her loss hit the family hard, but life went on. Hilliel grew up. A Turn passed, and it came time for another clutch to shatter on Fort Weyr sands. Because of the possibility of freak Threadfall and accidents, Hilliel’s aunts were asked to attend the Hatching and bolster the Weyr’s healer population; they took Hilliel along because they had nobody to leave him with. It was during that Hatching that Hilliel had his first glimpse of the new colours—he, as well as his aunts, were fascinated by them, and were quick to take the side of the “mutants” when the Fort Weyrwoman banished them.
When the choice came down to remain or flee with the new colours, the two women elected to accompany the mutant clutch to the Southern Continent. Hilliel tagged along with them to Skysong Hold, where he was recently Searched for the new clutch on the Sands.
