In order to get some more people to join I was thinking of having the hatching this weekend. We don't have to do it this weekend, but I was thinking if we do we can continue the current threads in Skysong and Fort about the traitor and emergency meeting going, just in liquid time if we wanted. In my experince that hatchings always seemed to get more people to join.
I wanted Fort Weyr to show up and "take part" in the hatching and have something go down. Any suggestions?
I had the idea that a few NPC Fort riders either loyal to the Weyrleaders or extremists might drop a few eggs between.
Questions, comments, or concerns?

Valoryn would definitely be up for launching an assault on Skysong and betweening some eggs. :3
Maybe hold the Hatching next weekend to give people a week to submit Candidates, since we don't have very many?

I agree with Space. Since I'm bringing in...our friend from Fort, I need a chance to get that rider out there, and I find when people know that there's a Hatching at a certain date, more Candidates get submitted. But by all means, soon is good (just not this weekend; I'm working double shifts). (:
Dropping eggs between is a good idea! So is smashing a few without dropping them...possibly damaged dragonets? I love drama!

Yep, sounds good to me. I'll advertise the hatching either as next weekend or maybe the one after it depending on if I get weekend vet rounds next weekend or not. I'll know Saturday for sure.
I also like the idea of smashing or damaging some eggs during or before the hatching. Maybe a rider could do sneak into the Grounds while Zarinth is eating and damage some eggs before the hatching then some damaged dragonets at the hatching along with betweening eggs?
Maybe someone should damage a Queen Egg, plenty of drama there to be had and I like the idea.

No rider would ever damage a Queen Egg, the dragons wouldn't let them. The only dragons without that mechanic of self-preservations, are the mutations. From what I have seen. As for damaging others, they'd do that. I have to get Inixia made, and start the shit that will go down with Innaria and those characters. Have to talk to Midnight about getting the other characters made as well.
I say weekend after next. That way there is PLENTY of time to get people. Two weeks to get character submitted and some roleplaying done. That way the admins can see the characters in action, and match up dragons accordingly.

Yeah I was kind of leaning towards the weekend after next. 2 weeks sounds better, advertised some today as hatching next week or so but I can change it. The injured Queen thing was something I came up with randomly today, doesnt have to be done, just throwing ideas out there.

Well what could happen, is the attack could happen during the hatching. Meaning the Eggs could get damaged in the process. One of the queens could have her wing twisted during the fight, and be permanently unable to rise. Or her wing membrane could be damaged to were flight wouldn't be possible for extended periods of time.
That would end the fighting between the dragons though. On either side, a hatchling queen injured would make them all stop and go "what the shards are we doing? We are hurting children!"

I like the idea of damaged eggs before the Hatching better. If the eggs aren't totally hardened yet, there's more potential for a really interesting Hatching.
I've done Hatchings with preemptively damaged eggs before, and I've found them to be really fascinating, because then people know something is going to happen but they don't know what. And the damage in that case could just as easily be mental as physical, whereas if riders randomly start smashing eggs at the Hatching, there're probably only going to be physical injuries.
And humans can easily injure eggs. Particularly if, for instance, the Fort spy sneaks onto the sands without the dragon's knowledge and wounds eggs while they're still soft. There are a lot of ways this can be done, not just one.
Remember, dragons and humans can close themselves off from each other for a little bit. (:

Yes, they can do that. Damaging a Queen egg while it's still soft is quite possible. There was one hatching I was in were an egg was damaged. When it hatched, there was one live dragonet in a separate egg membrane, and one rotted nasty corpse of it's egg twin.

I just joined, but I thought I would drop in my opinion. I agree with the weekend after next. More time=more characters [/blockquote]

So how would you guys like to run this? Would you prefer to have NPC dragons doing the smashing? And pre-Hatching, or during-Hatching?
I'd be perfectly happy to have Valoryn show up and do some smashing personally, but if she does, she'd probably do it like... now. XD Pre-hatching, so she's less likely to be caught on the Sands.

Couldn't you damage eggs by moving them the wrong way? Or maybe I'm thinking of just reptile eggs....

Yeah, I know that some species of reptile (like geckos!) the embryo actually attaches itself to one side of the egg, so if you flip it over to the wrong way 'round they won't hatch correctly... But I don't think that Pernese dragons are true reptiles, so I dunno if the same would hold true for them.

I dont recall reading in the Dragonlovers Gude to Pern that they attached themselves to the egg like a reptile, but my mind may be fuzzy. I always imagined someone with a large hammer like one used in the Smithcraft smashing an egg with it, but I'm sure there are other ways.

In Pern the queens turn the eggs. So that all sides get equal heat. They spend hours every day, turning the eggs. Barely getting any sleep, or eating. The eggs would have to be damaged before the shells fully hardened. Otherwise we are screwed in damaging them with anything other then a dragon stomp.
Anyways, I apologize for my absence. I'll be making a thread tonight, for all of those Fort Riders/character that wish to go to Skysong
